Raising awareness of depression in hopes of preventing suicides.
The 10th annual Johnny Leathers, Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament was held on May 4th. Even though it may have been the rainiest day so far this year, we were blessed to have 58 of the 82 registered golfers play (one of which made a hole-in-one "Congratulations to Dave Bouton"), 10 volunteers, breakfast provided by Chick-fil-A of Canton, pre-game bagpipe music by Occasional Music, silent auction by Heritage Charity Auctions and Awards, photography by Michael Beck, and another great day on the Woodmont Golf & Country Club course (check out the tournament pictures www.beckshot.com click on "sports", "Johnny Foundation Golf Tournament" "2013").
We were blessed to have raised $15,000 again this year. These funds will continue to support college awareness projects and we hope to reach out to fund military suicide prevention projects as well. New Department of Defense figures show that more soldiers took their own lives in 2012 than died in combat. Military families sacrifice so much for our freedom and we hope to have an opportunity to be there for them when they are hurting and need to know there is help and hope.
The Johnny Foundation is also blessed be able to continue funding the memorial funds with Paraclete Counseling www.paracletecounseling.com in Suwanee, GA, and Family Psychological Center in Roswell, GA. www.brendawagnerphd.com. These funds are set aside to assist with the funding of counseling for anyone suffering with depression but unable to pay for sessions or without insurance. Anyone needing assistant may contact the centers and mention The Johnny Foundation for assistance.
We may never know how many lives will be touched because of your generosity and we are blessed to have your support. Please continue to keep us in your prayers as we strive to shine God's light by providing help and hope to those who struggle with an illness that makes them believe they will live the worst day of their life every day of their life.
Thank you for being a blessing to The Johnny Foundation and our family,
