Raising awareness of depression in hopes of preventing suicides.
The Johnny Foundation would like to thank you for your support and contribution to the 8th annual Johnny Leathers, Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament held on April 29th, 2011. We were blessed to have 74 golfers, 15 volunteers, breakfast provided by Chick-fil-a of Canton, pre-game bagpipe music by Winter Taylor, silent auction by Heritage Charity and Awards, photography by Michael Beck, and another great day on the Woodmont Golf & Country Club course.
We are so thankful to have raised $15,000. This year's funds will continue to support the AFSP's Interactive Screening Program (ISP) at Emory University, Agnes Scott and begin a program at Kennesaw University this fall. The following report from Emory University indicates just how important these programs are:
"Within the past year, 1,650 graduate students at Emory were invited to take the questionnaire through the ISP. Over 200 students have completed the questionnaire, approximately 70 students have used this system to discuss their concerns and obtain information about campus resources, and 20 students have met with a counselor to develop a specific plan for getting help. A number of these students were contemplating suicide at the
time they took the questionnaire and as a result of the ISP have gotten the help they need."
We have also been blessed to establish the Johnny Leathers Jr. Memorial Fund with Paraclete Counseling - www.paracletecounseling.com in Suwanee, GA, in addition to the current fund with Dr. Brenda Wagner in Roswell, GA. - www.brendawagnerphd.com. These funds will help fund counseling for anyone suffering with depression but not able to pay for sessions and increase the number of counselors available to help those who are hurting so badly with nowhere to go.
We may never know how many lives will be touched because of your generosity and we are blessed to have your support. Please continue to keep us in your prayers as we strive to shine God's light by providing help and hope to those who struggle with an illness that makes them believe they will live the worst day of their life every day of their life.
Thank you for being a blessing to The Johnny Foundation and our family,
Wayne, Lisa, Trish and Tina
